Malone, Orme, Aigner, Stoll, Parham and Wilson claim IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week awards
One player with a triple-double, two players with two double-doubles, one who averaged 31 points over three games and one who tied a 3-point season school record have been selected as Week 12 winners in the IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week program.
Prairie Heights senior Isaiah Malone, Carmel senior Sam Orme and Castle senior Weston Aigner are boys cited following outstanding performances during the week of Jan. 16-21 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Maconaquah junior Miranda Stoll, Tri senior Bailey Parham and Shelbyville junior Ava Wilson are girls honored for the same week.
Malone and Stoll are honorees for District 1. Orme and Parham are cited in District 2. Aigner and Wilson are recognized in District 3.
Malone, a 6-7 forward, had a triple-double in one game while keying Prairie Heights (11-3) to a 1-1 week. He opened with 18 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks while shooting 7-15 overall, 3-5 on 3-pointers and 1-1 on free throws in a 47-44 loss to Bethany Christian. Malone followed with 30 points, 16 rebounds, 10 blocks and one assist while hitting 10-12 field goals, 1-2 3-pointers and 9-16 freebies as the Panthers posted a 84-58 triumph over South Bend Career Academy.
Orme recorded a pair of double-doubles as Carmel moved to 11-5 with a 52-49 victory over Pike and a 53-42 decision over Brownsburg. The 6-9 forward opened with 15 points, 12 rebounds, two assist and one block while shooting 6-15 from the floor and 3-3 from the line as the Greyhounds edged the Red Devils. The Belmont University signee then tallied 11 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and one block while hitting 4-7 field goals, 1-4 3-pointers and 2-4 free throws against the Bulldogs.
Aigner averaged 31.0 points and 8.3 rebounds over three games in a 2-1 week for Castle (9-6). The 6-3 wing poured in 36 points with 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals while hitting 10-15 shots, 1-2 3-pointers and 15-16 free throws as the Knights beat Henderson County, Ky., 82-72. He followed by totaling 24 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals while converting 9-21 shots, 1-5 3-pointers and 5-9 freebies in a 74-64 overtime loss to Bloomington South. Aigner concluded his week by scoring 33 points with eight rebounds and two steals while sinking 13-22 field goals, 2-3 3-pointers and 5-5 free throws in a 73-65 triumph over Heritage Hills.
Stoll tied a school record for 3-pointers in a season by sinking nine treys in a 1-1 week for the Maconaquah girls (4-16). The 5-10 wing opened with 29 points, seven rebounds and one assist while converting 9-19 shots, 5-10 3-pointers and 6-6 free throws in a 57-45 setback to Southwood. Stoll followed by scoring 20 points with seven rebounds and two assists as the Braves defeated Whitko 43-36. She finished her week with 45-of-123) 3-pointers for the season and 76-of-226 so far in her career.
Parham produced two double-doubles in a 3-0 week as the Tri girls remained undefeated at 21-0 with victories over Oldenburg Academy (65-30), Centerville (69-23) and Shenandoah (68-26). The 6-0 forward opened with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, six steals and five blocks while making 4-7 field goals and 5-9 free throws against Oldenburg. She followed with 26 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, six steals and two blocks while converting 11-18 shots, 1-2 3-pointers and 3-5 free throws against Centerville. Parham completed the Titans' week with 31 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks while sinking 10-15 shots, 3-4 treys and 8-9 freebies against Shenandoah.
Wilson averaged 27.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Shelbyville girls (13-8). The 5-9 guard tallied 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals while making 9-19 shots, 3-6 3-pointers and 2-4 free throws in a 58-55 loss to Whiteland. Wilson followed with 31 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and six steals while shooting 14-30 on field goals, 2-10 on 3-pointers and 1-4 on free tosses as the Golden Bears beat Delta 66-31.
This is the 15th season for the IBCA Player of the Week program and the third season the awards are being presented by Franciscan Health Sports Medicine, a corporate partner of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA's three districts. Girls' winners are chosen from now the the Monday following the IHSAA girls' State Finals. Boys' winners are chosen from now through the Monday following the IHSAA boys' State Finals.
